Field Trips
The Santa Barbara Unified School District does not pay for field trips for the schools. This is an expense that the Foundation takes on. We believe that getting the students out of the classroom environment is not only healthy but it also helps them learn and experience things in a different way.
The cost of transportation for a field trip increases every year, and this year it is $154.74 per field trip. This year, we planned out 49 different field trips for our students. We are averaging 6 field trips per grade throughout the year. We also pay for all of the admission fees if there are any.
In the 2022/2023 school year, we budgeted $11,700.00.

6th Grade Trip to Catalina Island Marine Institute
2022 was the first year that Harding students ever attended a 6th grade overnight field trip. They were sent to AstroCamp for 3 days. It was a magical experience that our students will never forget.
For the 2023/2024 school year we hope to send our 6th grade students to CIMI (Catalina Island Marine Institute) for a 3 day trip. And our 5th grade students to AstroCamp for 3 days.
Expenses for these types of trips are very costly – with transportation costing close to $12,000 and the cost for the camp being $13,000. Total costs for the 2022 trip was roughly $28,000.
Other schools in the district are able to send their students every year, and we would like to have the funding to do that as well.
If you or your company is willing to help with this program, we are always taking donations. Or please email Brianna Lane at [email protected] to discuss.
